Bodegas Luzón: Brand.
Origen en 1841.
Bodegas Luzón es uno de los principales productores y exportadores de vinos de calidad de la D.O. Jumilla, y una de sus bodegas más históricas, produciendo vino desde finales del siglo XIX. La zona vitivinícola de Jumilla está situada al sureste de España, al norte de la región de Murcia. El clima es continental, influenciado por el cercano mar Mediterráneo con días cálidos, unas lluvias que no alcanzan los 300 litros por metro cuadrado, y noches frescas. El resultado es un clima duro, que origina un suelo de textura gruesa con abundante caliza y que permite obtener racimos pequeños, con buena concentración de azúcar, excelente acidez y hollejos más gruesos. Para llegar a nuestros orígenes, debemos remontarnos al año 1841. Don José de Molina, comandante de los Reales Ejércitos destinado en la colonia española de Manila (Filipinas), decide volver a su tierra Jumilla. Es entonces cuando bautiza a sus tierras como “Finca Luzón”, en honor a la isla en la que estuvo tanto tiempo. Esta finca sería creada para su hija mayor Ana Josefa de Molina, quedando hasta los años 80 del siglo XX, siempre la herencia de las tierras ligada a las ramas femeninas de la familia. Estamos entonces en una de las bodegas más antiguas de la zona de Jumilla y que, además, desde sus orígenes y durante gran parte de su historia, fue dirigida por mujeres.
Los viñedos.
Unas 3.000 horas de sol al año, escasas lluvias, alrededor de 300 litros por metro cuadrado anuales, bajas temperaturas en invierno y tierras predominantemente calizas de permeabilidad media 700m de altitud, conocidas como "terruño", mágica combinación entre composición de suelo, orientación, podado y climatología son el entorno de nuestras 700 ha. De viña. Un buen vino no comienza en la bodega, sino en la vid, en la viticultura y su cuidado. En Bodegas Luzón gestionamos unas 1.200 hectáreas de viñedos, tanto en propiedad como otras gestionadas por agricultores. La principal variedad que podéis encontrar en nuestros viñedos es, por supuesto, la Monastrell, una uva tan característica en nuestra Región y que sirve de base para muchos de nuestros vinos. Es una variedad de fuerte carácter que suele derivar en vinos con una notable graduación. Otras variedades es Garnacha Tintorera, una uva muy plantada tanto en nuestra zona como en Alicante; Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon y Petit Verdot en cuanto a las variedades tintas, y Macabeo (o Viura) y Chardonnay en las blancas. La recolección, en dependencia del tipo de vino que se vaya a realizar y la zona, se puede hacer bien en cajas de plástico con una capacidad de 10 y 15 kilos, para preservar la integridad de la uva, o bien en palots de 300 kilos, o remolques.
Variedades.
Monastrell, variedad autóctona, de racimo compacto y de grano Redondo, aparece documentada y en el siglo XV, aunque su utilización para elaborar los vinos de esta tierra sin duda data de muchas generaciones anteriores a esta fecha. Permite la obtención de tintos de color rubí intenso, con tonos violetas, abundantes aromas frutales, franco en nariz cálidos en boca, con una graduación media de entre 13 y 15 grados, resultando vinos jóvenes frescos y vinos, crianzas y reservas ricos, suaves y bien estructurados.
La Bodega.
Jumilla se ha convertido en la cuna de las sorpresas de los vinos españoles, emergente y puntera dentro del panorama vitivinícola nacional e internacional. Con un talante innovador, Bodegas Luzón ha renovado los conceptos tradicionales de la viticultura tanto en la definición de los vinos como en los métodos de elaboración y crianza.
La sala Altos de Luzón.
Una de las zonas más importantes de nuestra bodega es, sin duda, la sala Altos de Luzón. Aquí se comienza el proceso de creación del vino. En este caso, uno de nuestros vinos más emblemáticos, Altos de Luzón, junto con nuestro Alma de Luzón y Por Ti. Realizamos lo que llamamos la “Triple selección”: selección de viñedos, selección del agricultor durante la vendimia manual y selección en mesa. El proceso comienza, tras la llegada de la uva, guardándola en nuestras cámaras de refrigeración para evitar que se produzca una fermentación espontánea no deseada. Posteriormente, la uva se vuelca en la mesa de selección, donde se seleccionan los mejores racimos. Éstos pasan a la despalilladora, donde se separan los granos de uva de sus raspones, en tal de separar la parte vegetal y herbácea de la fruta. Una vez realizado este proceso, las uvas entrarían directamente en los depósitos de fermentación. Cada variedad de uva que forma Altos de Luzón, Alma de Luzón o Por Ti se fermentan de modo separado, para mantener las características y las notas de expresión que cada variedad tiene. Tras la fermentación alcohólica se realiza el descube para sacar el vino de los depósitos donde ha fermentado y así llevarlo a otro depósito en el que realizará la segunda fermentación, la maloláctica. Llega el momento de decidir qué vino es directamente embotellado como vino joven o de cosecha y qué otros vinos tienen la capacidad de aguantar el paso del tiempo y reposar en las barricas realizando la crianza.
La sala de barricas.
Para la elaboración de varios de nuestros vinos, la barrica es una pieza fundamental. La madera permite el paso lento del oxígeno, que produce una oxidación suave del mismo, modificando su estructura y variando su color y sabor. Nuestras salas de crianza están bajo tierra para poder mantener unas condiciones de temperatura y humedad prácticamente constantes a lo largo de todo el año. En total tenemos capacidad para 4.500 barricas entre roble francés y americano. El motivo por el que tenemos dos tipos de barrica es porque los diferentes tipos de madera aportan distintos matices a los vinos que en su interior hacen la crianza. Para cada vino, en función de su fruta y estructura, el enólogo elegirá el tipo de roble, su grado de tostado y la duración de la crianza. En este periodo los vinos adquieren redondez, se afinan y armonizan. Una vez ha alcanzado su momento óptimo se procede al embotellado.

El santuario.
Para Bodegas Luzón es un lugar de culto y de historia. Uno de los lugares con más protagonismo en nuestra bodega. En esta zona almacenamos todas las añadas desde el 2001. Aquí la temperatura y la humedad juegan un factor determinante para que podamos conservar cada uno de los vinos que hemos creado a lo largo de nuestra historia reciente de un modo óptimo. Estas botellas se almacenan en sus nichos para recordar a las generaciones futuras la historia de nuestra bodega y de aquellos que crearon y dieron lugar a cada uno de los vinos. Además, también es importante para la realización de catas verticales, que permite a los enólogos corregir o perseguir determinados matices.
La catedral.
La catedral es la zona original donde se realizaba el vino en los orígenes de la bodega. En el techo aún se pueden observar los orificios por donde antiguamente se descargaba la uva para realizar el proceso de fermentación. Esta sala se llenaba hasta arriba de uva con este fin. Afortunadamente, la tecnología ha ido llegando a la enología y todo el proceso de creación del vino es mucho más sencillo.
