Bajo la dirección de Agustín Santolaya (gerente de la firma), Roda ha sido una de las bodegas motor de la renovación de Rioja en los noventa. A finales de los 80, en plena ebullición del cambio de modelo vitivinícola en España, llegan a La Rioja Mario Rotllant y Carmen Daurella con la intención apasionada de crear un proyecto que aportara algo nuevo al mundo del vino. Aunque parecía que todo estaba ya hecho en la centenaria Rioja, decidieron iniciar su aventura. El nombre de la bodega, Roda, responde a las dos iniciales de los apellidos de ambos promotores (Ro-Da). En 1991 se forjó la filosofía y Roda se posicionó en un corto plazo de tiempo a la cabeza de las mejores bodegas riojanas, gracias a la participación de un equipo técnico sobredimensionado. Decidieron elaborar sólo con variedades tintas autóctonas, como la Tempranillo, Garnacha y Graciano, respetando absolutamente la añada, sin utilizar vinos de otros años para uniformizar o refrescar una cosecha. Los vinos de Roda son vinos que arrancan las entrañas del viñedo, suelo, clima, paisaje, hechos para disfrutar. El secreto de su éxito se basa, no solo en una magnífica materia prima procedente de los mejores ecosistemas de la zona, de los cuales se vinifican cada año los 17 mejores; sino también de la aplicación de las mejores tecnologías elaboradoras. Los viñedos viejos son también una signo de indentidad de Roda al aportar mayor complejidad a sus vinos, y el equilibrio producción/calidad es el ideal.
Criterios.
Bodegas Roda está ubicada a la vera del río Ebro, en un balcón del Barrio de La Estación de Haro, La Rioja, sobre un calado del siglo XIX. Los viticultores lo utilizaban para almacenar las cosechas, que posteriormente se enviaban a Burdeos por ferrocarril para mitigar los daños provocados por la filoxera. La fundación de Roda se remonta a 1987. Cuatro años después se inicia la construcción de la bodega, que finaliza en 2001. Las instalaciones fueron concebidas a la medida de los vinos de Roda: adaptando en cada fase el número de tinas a los viñedos seleccionados cada añada, una sala bioclimática, fruto de una apuesta inédita por la innovación, y dos naves de crianza excavadas directamente en la roca. En Roda nunca se utilizan vinos de otros años para uniformizar o refrescar una cosecha, ni tampoco se compran vinificaciones de otras bodegas.Roda controla una veintena de pagos vitícolas distribuidos en los mejores ecosistemas de la zona de los cuales cada año se vinifican los mejores. En Roda la vinificación se realiza en tinas de roble francés con control de temperatura, Además, la crianza se realiza 100% en barricas de roble francés.
