El origen.
El origen de GÓMEZ CRUZADO se remonta a 1886, fecha en la que D. Ángel Gómez de Arteche, noble mejicano relacionado con el ducado de Moctezuma de Tultengo, decide elaborar y embotellar vinos en Haro, en pleno corazón de la Rioja Alta. Nace así, en el Barrio de la Estación de Haro, una de las bodegas centenarias que escribe la historia del Rioja moderno a finales del siglo XIX. Tras su fundación, en 1916 GÓMEZ CRUZADO es comprada por D. Agustín y D. Jesús Gómez Cruzado, de origen riojano, de quienes toma el nombre actual. Tras la sucesión de varios inversores a lo largo de las décadas, con el cambio de siglo, la bodega llega a manos de los actuales propietarios, la familia Baños, originaria del riojano pueblo de Badarán y residente en México, recuperando así su carácter familiar. GÓMEZ CRUZADO se encuentra actualmente bajo la dirección del tándem formado por David González y Juan Antonio Leza, dos jóvenes enólogos y técnicos vitícolas con más de una década de trabajo especializado como consultores de importantes proyectos en distintas zonas vitivinícolas. David y Juan Antonio empezaron a tener contacto con Gómez Cruzado en 2008 y hoy es su pasión.
Vinos finos de Rioja.
Gómez Cruzado es hoy la ‘bodega boutique’ del Barrio de la Estación de Haro, con una producción anual cercana a las 200.000 botellas. Nuestro proyecto aglutina los ingredientes necesarios para hacer vinos de altísima calidad, marcados por el origen y la tipicidad, apostando por el estilo de los ‘vinos finos’ del Barrio de la Estación de Haro. La calidad de un vino es la suma de muchos pequeños detalles. Todos son necesarios. Nuestro trabajo de elaboración y crianza está diseñado para respetar al máximo la personalidad de nuestra uva y el carácter de cada viñedo. Nuestro objetivo es crear vinos con apego al terruño, que es la expresión más pura de su identidad. En función de sus características la uva de cada parcela llega a bodega sabiendo para qué vino será destinada.
Viticultura.
El punto de partida de la calidad de los vinos de Gómez Cruzado es el viñedo que conforma el paisaje tradicional, formado por pequeños ‘majuelos’ de viñedo viejo cultivado en las zonas más altas de Rioja Alta y Alavesa, allí donde es posible elaborar grandes vinos con apego al terruño. Un patrimonio que proviene de la práctica ancestral de una viticultura sostenible y razonada. Los vinos de Gómez Cruzado nacen así en el viñedo con una mezcla de uvas de las casi 100 diferentes parcelas controladas, repartidas en tres zonas perfectamente definidas. La profunda reforma de las instalaciones culminada en el año 2005 ha posibilitado que la bodega esté hoy preparada para afrontar el siglo XXI, aplicando diariamente los avances del conocimiento y las nuevas técnicas para trabajar con precisión en la elaboración de vinos de aromas nítidos y sabores puros.
Terruños privilegiados.
Elaboramos uvas de tres terruños muy diferentes: Viñedos del Alto Najerilla, Bajo Najerilla y Sierra Cantabria. Juntos , como si fuesen piezas de un puzzle, conforman la personalidad de nuestros vinos. Tres microclimas y tres tipos de suelo que muestran la riqueza de matices que atesora la DOCa. Rioja.
- SIERRA CANTABRIA.
La zona mítica a lo largo de la falda de la Sierra Cantabria, Rioja Alavesa y Rioja Alta. Vasos cultivados en suelos blanquecinos, pobres, de composición arcillo-calcárea. La mayoría de ellos en ‘carasoles’ en la parte más alta de la sierra, hasta los 750 metros. Muy cerca de la frontera natural que separa el clima mediterráneo del atlántico en la Península Ibérica, son los únicos viñedos en Rioja donde es patente esta influencia atlántica en el clima. Estas cepas nos dan vinos con característica tipicidad, frescor y elegancia.
- BAJO NAJERILLA.
Viñedos ubicados en el triángulo formado por las poblaciones de Uruñuela, Cenicero y Torremontalbo (Rioja Alta), en la desembocadura del Najerilla en el río Ebro. Paisaje formado por vasos viejos de tempranillos, cultivados en suelos aluviales de canto rodado, con una altitud media de 500 m. Se trata de una zona algo más cálida, con notable influencia mediterránea. Los vinos elaborados poseen alta madurez y excelente capacidad de guarda.
- ALTO NAJERILLA.
Las garnachas del Alto Najerilla (Rioja Alta)–cultivadas en un enclave situado en la Sierra de la Demanda-. Viñedos en vaso, con una edad de más de 80 años. Fueron hincados en suelos arcillo-ferrosos, en laderas con orientación Norte, a una altitud aproximada de 750 metros, donde el clima dominante es el continental extremo. Las uvas obtenidas en estos viñedos destacan por su gran carácter frutal y marcada acidez.
