Tesón por un proyecto.
Fundada a comienzos de los 90 por la familia Arzuaga Navarro, las Bodegas que llevan su nombre son un ejemplo de dedicación y pasión por la tierra y el vino. Florentino Arzuaga Navarro, cerca de un Duero silencioso, compró una finca que, por su dimensión, tiene horizonte propio. Luego vinieron las cepas, la bodega y después el vino; un tinto como a él le gustaba: con esqueleto pero elegante, rotundo y complejo a la vez. Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro es una de las referencias de calidad de la Ribera del Duero y una de las grandes bodegas de nuestro país. Elabora vinos modernos desde su expresión de fruta, potentes, pero con elegancia y equilibrio, y con un marcado carácter de lo que ofrece una gran tempranillo de la Ribera del Duero. La brillante trayectoria de Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro comenzó a principios de los noventa gracias al tesón de Florentino Arzuaga, un empresario hostelero que buscaba establecer un proyecto bodeguero de vanguardia a las orillas del Duero. Para ello, eligió una de las áreas más privilegiadas de esta zona de producción por entonces en plena expansión: el término de Quintanilla de Onésimo (Valladolid), en la conocida como “milla de oro” de la Ribera del Duero, donde se encuentran firmas tan ilustres como Vega Sicilia y Finca Villacreces.
El grupo Arzuaga.
Tras iniciar la plantación de viñas en la finca La Planta, propiedad de 1.400 hectáreas situada a pocos kilómetros de la bodega, a una altitud de unos 810 metros, sobre suelo arcillo-calcáreo, lo que le otorga unas características muy particulares, la familia Arzuaga continuó incrementando la superficie de viñedo hasta alcanzar las más de 150 hectáreas que posee hoy día e inició la construcción de unas instalaciones con vistas a un futuro en el que se rebasaran las fronteras del ejercicio bodeguero para convertirse en un gran centro de enoturismo. Así ha sido: hoy Arzuaga Navarro ofrece a los enófilos una amplia oferta, sumando, a sus imponentes naves de elaboración, un hotel, un spa y un restaurante. La bodega Arzuaga Navarro se alza cerca del Duero. Un canto a la piedra, sólida y rústica con evocación monacal por sus arcadas, torres a los lados y, en el centro, el campanario coronado por la veleta de los vientos. Fuera la piedra y dentro la cálida madera del olmo dan la bienvenida al visitante y preparan su ánimo para probar unos vinos especiales. La calidad es el aspecto más mimado y cuidado en Arzuaga Navarro. La excelente calidad de sus uvas, premisa inexcusable del buen vino, el mimo con el que son cuidados los viñedos y la pasión en el trabajo han hecho que sus vinos sean ya unos de los más prestigiosos de la Denominación de Origen de la Ribera del Duero.
El resurgir del vino.
En la floreciente comarca vitivinícola castellana de la Ribera del Duero, el viñedo siempre estuvo presente a lo largo de los siglos formando parte de su paisaje, conviviendo y cediendo por momentos con plantaciones de cereales y otros productos agroalimentarios. Importantes bodegas, aunque escasas en número, se ubicaban en un territorio, que a partir de 1979 iba a conocer un despegue que se haría definitivo en los primeros años de este siglo. En 1979 la Denominación de Origen Protegida Ribera del Duero recibía su reconocimiento provisional y en 1982 se constituye definitivamente la misma, para lo que fue necesario que una de las primeras bodegas –sino la primera- de la zona, Bodegas Protos en Peñafiel, le cediese el derecho a utilizar el nombre cambiando su primitivo nombre de Bodegas Ribera del Duero por el que usan en la actualidad.
La Denominación abarca municipios de la provincia de Burgos, Segovia, Soria y Valladolid, en una extensión de 115 kilómetros de longitud y 35 kilómetros de anchura, en una franja de la cuenca del río Duero, que se extiende desde el municipio soriano de San Esteban de Gormaz al vallisoletano de Quintanilla de Onésimo, albergando en la actualidad –información del año 2012- una extensión de cerca de 21.000 hectáreas de viñedo, con un censo de 8.300 viticultores y de 279 bodegas. En uno de los extremos de la Denominación, Quintanilla de Onésimo, se encuentra la “Finca La Planta”, ubicada en la carretera que une este municipio con el segoviano de Cuéllar, en la ribera izquierda del río Duero, en la que conviven la flora y la fauna de la zona, y que tiene una situación privilegiada para el cultivo de la vid. Dicha finca fue adquirida en 1982 por el matrimonio Florentino Arzuaga Iparraguirre y María Luisa Navarro, empresarios hosteleros y textiles respectivamente, siendo el germen de lo que posteriormente sería Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro, S.L.
