Características.

Las bayas son de color negro azulado, de tamaño mediano, ligeramente aplanadas y con un hollejo medio grueso. Las pequeñas uvas de touriga nacional tienen un alto ratio de piel con respecto a la pulpa, lo que aumenta la cantidad de extracto seco en la elaboración del vino. Estas uvas pueden producir un vino intenso muy aromático y con una alta cantidad de taninos. Es una variedad muy empleada en ensamblajes de vinos no fortificados, y la base de muchos oportos legendarios. La tinta barroca es una uva tinta portuguesa que crece sobre todo en la región del Duero portugués (Douro). Hay algunas plantaciones en Sudáfrica.
