Vino del Valle de Uco.

El producto originario del Valle de Uco es todo aquel vino o bebida espirituosa que cumple con su definición, es decir, con uvas cosechadas en el Valle de Uco, elaboradas y el vino embotellado en el mismo, por más que la uva sea de Tunuyán, se elabore en San Carlos y el vino se embotelle en Tupungato. Estos tres departamentos forman parte del Área de Producción del Valle de Uco. Este caso solo se da para la Indicación Geográfica, y la IG a utilizar en el producto es “Indicación Geográfica Valle de Uco”. El Valle de Uco es una región vitivinícola clave de Mendoza, Argentina. A una hora en coche al sur de la ciudad de Mendoza, es el hogar de algunos de los vinos más famosos de la región. La principal variedad de uva de Malbec de Argentina brilla aquí, produciendo vinos tintos de terroir con un aroma floral distintivo. El clima y el suelo.

Entre los méritos específicos de Uco está su alta elevación al pie de las montañas de los Andes. Las subregiones La Consulta y Tunuyan del valle se encuentran a altitudes de 850 metros, 2000 pies y 1100 m, 3600 pies, respectivamente. Estos son ligeramente más altos sobre el nivel del mar que Maipu y Luján de Cuyo en el norte. Ubicados a una latitud de 33°S, los sitios de viñedos elevados del área se benefician de las altas temperaturas diurnas combinadas con noches más frescas. Origen.

La pinot gris es una variedad de uva, de la que se tienen noticias desde la Edad Media en la región de Borgoña, donde probablemente se la llamaba fromenteau. Llegó a Suiza desde Borgoña, junto a la pinot noir, a principios del siglo XIV. Según se cree, esta variedad era la favorita del Emperador Carlos IV de Luxemburgo, quien envió esquejes de esta vid, llevados por los monjes cistercienses, hasta Hungría. Los religiosos crearon viñedos de pinot gris en las laderas de Badacsony, a orillas del lago Balatón, en 1375. Poco después, la vid fue llamada szürkebarát, que significa "monje gris". En 1711, un comerciante alemán, de nombre Johann Seger Ruland, descubrió una uva creciendo silvestre en los campos del Palatinado. El subsiguiente vino que produjo fue conocido como ruländer y, posteriormente, se descubrió que esta vid era la pinot gris. Características.

La variedad Pinot Gris es una uva originaria de Borgoña donde le llaman Pinot Beurots. Investigadores de la Universidad de California en Davis, han determinado que la pinot gris tiene un perfil de ADN similar a la pinot noir y que la diferencia de color deriva de una mutación genética que ocurrió hace siglos. Las hojas y las cepas de ambas vides son tan similares que la diferencia de color es lo único que permite diferenciarlas. Las cepas de pinot gris son de vigor medio bajo, de porte erecto, desborre y maduración semitardíos a tardios. Su producción es escasa. Los racimos son pequeños, compactos, homogéneos, cilíndricos, alados, con ramificación claramente diferenciada y muchas veces largamente pedunculada. Las bayas del pinot gris son pequeñas de sección circular y perfil ligeramente elíptico. Su hollejo es grueso de color gris-rosado-marrón, con mucha pruina. La pulpa es compacta, jugosa y muy aromática. Es una viña que resiste bien el frío, no se ve muy afectada por las heladas, tanto las de invierno como las de primavera. Resiste muy poco la caliza activa y la sequía. Es muy sensible a la botritis ya la podredumbre gris y ácida. Es sensible black-rot, al desecado del raquis, a los ácaros, cicadélidos y a la polilla del racimo, sin embargo, es poco sensible a la excoriosis.




Zonas de cultivo.

La variedad Pinot Gris se asocia generalmente a las regiones vitícolas de Alsacia (Francia) y Oregon (Estados Unidos). Pero su cultivo se ha extendido a muchas otras zonas de todo el mundo, siendo también cultivada en Borgoña, California, Alemania, Italia, Australia, Nueva Zelanda, Argentina, Austria, Canadá, Chile, Hungría, Italia, Moldavia, Rumania, Sudáfrica, Eslovenia, Suiza y Ucrania.




Vinos.

Los vinos hechos de pinot gris varian mucho dependiendo de la región y de su estilo de vinificación, pudiendo encontrar desde vinos livianos a vinos con mucho cuerpo. Los vinos de pinot gris de Alsacia tienen un cuerpo de medio a completo y puede envejecer bien. El vino alemán tiene más cuerpo y tiene un balance leve entre acidez y dulzor. En Oregón, los vinos tienen un cuerpo medio, cuentan con un color cobrizo rosado y aromas a pera, manzana y/o melón.
