La bodega se encuentra en el Castillo de Jarnac, el cual está localizado en la población que lleva el mismo nombre, en el departamento de Charente, al oeste de Francia. Su historia se remonta al año 1809, en tiempos de la Revolución Francesa, cuando el primer Emperador de Francia, Napoleón Bonaparte, tomó el trono. Emmanuel Courvoisier, el fundador, y Louis Gallois, alcalde de Bercy en esos momentos, se juntaron para abrir una empresa de vinos y bebidas destiladas en los alrededores de París. Gracias a un trabajo de calidad, el éxito de estos emprendedores creció. El mismo Napoleón Bonaparte fue a visitarlos. Una teoría es, que quizá por lo que probó, Napoleón empezó a darles a sus tropas una ración de coñac buscando elevar su moral durante las Guerras Napoleónicas en curso, buscando que pudieran probar vino por la tarde y coñac por la mañana. El reconocimiento continuó en aumento, el coñac era parte de las mesas más exclusivas, como la de los Tribunales Reales de Dinamarca, Inglaterra y Suecia. Incluso, Napoleón III, requirió personalmente que Courvoisier fuera el proveedor oficial de la Corte Imperial. En los años 80, los directivos de la bodega asumieron una posición revolucionaria con cambios innovadores para tener una calidad superior. Entre los cambios se encuentra la micro-destilación, el envejecimiento propio del roble francés y el almacenamiento en barriles verticales.
Productos.
- Courvoisier VS Cognac: Es una mezcla de varios crus de entre tres y siete años. Tiene un sabor lleno de frutas maduras y flores de primavera.
- Courvoisier VSOP Cogna: Es resultado de una mezcla de varios crus con un equilibrio entre Fins Bois, Grande y Petite Champagnes. Se siente el melocotón, las almendras tostadas y jazmín.
- Courvoisier XO Cognac: Seleccionada del Master Blender de eaux de vie, de entre 11 y 25 años. Tiene una textura aterciopelada y toques de crème brûlée, naranja confitada y flor de iris.
- VSOP exclusivo; selecto, con notas de galletas de jengibre, café tostado, ciruelas secas y los años de envejecimiento en madera.
- Napoleón Fine Champagne: Creada en el siglo XX para conmemorar la relación entre las familias Courvoisier y Napoleón. Tiene sabores y aromas de cajas de cigarro, seta, sándalo y albaricoque seco.
- 12 Años de Edad: Deliciosa combinación de aromas con 12 años. Es el resultado de la combinación de las uvas Fins Bois.
- 21 Años: Resultado del Grande Champagne cru, que se ha envejecido por más de dos décadas en barricas de roble Tronçais seleccionadas manualmente.
- Initiale Extra: Una mezcla entre el crus Grande Champagne y Borderies, iniciando de edad de 30 años y madurando hasta los 50 años o más.
- Succession JS: Se pensó para conmemorar el bicentenario de la coronación de Napoleón Bonaparte y para honrar la unión entre la bodega y los viticultores.

El castillo.
Debido a la falta de mantenimiento, el castillo se se quedó en estado de ruina a fines del siglo XVII y XVIII. El propietario en aquellas fechas, Charles, el conde d'Artois, vendió algunos edificios para financiar reparaciones. El castillo se vendido como propiedad nacional para su demolición, pero en 1795 los comerciantes de Messrs Otard y Dupuy lo compraron para montar bodegas en él. Durante el siglo XIX se emprendieron importantes trabajos de restauración y hoy por hoy, el castillo de Jarnac se puede conocer gracias a los diferentes tours que organizan los actuales propietarios. Así, puedes conocer todas las raíces parisinas y la elaboración del cognac de primera mano. Se pueden probar diferentes bebidas en el salón del castillo y tener verdaderas experiencias sensoriales acompañadas de unos deliciosos postres. Se puede conocer hasta la bodega más exclusiva y llena de historia.
