La denominación de St. Julien es la más pequeña de las principales denominaciones de Burdeos en el Medoc con 910 hectáreas bajo vid. En promedio, se producen 450,000 cajas de vino cada año en Saint Julien. Pero es importante tener en cuenta que las cosas geniales vienen en paquetes pequeños. En cuanto a los crecimientos clasificados en el Medoc, la denominación de St. Julien tiene la proporción más alta de terruño clasificado de cualquier región de Burdeos. Algunos de los vinos de Saint Julien se pueden confundir fácilmente con el vino de Burdeos de Pauillac; esto es fácil de entender ya que Pauillac y St. Julien están a solo una parra en el lado norte de St. Julien. Hay propiedades de Saint Julien que pueden combinar majestuosamente la concentración con elegancia y pureza, como los vinos que se encuentran en Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou. La grava en los suelos es un elemento clave para lo que hace que los vinos de St. Julien sean tan buenos. La grava ayuda a proporcionar un drenaje natural en los años húmedos, reflejando la luz solar, irradiando calor a las vides, lo que permite que las vides profundicen en los suelos sus raíces.
