El nuevo descubrimiento.

Miguel Torres Chile se fundó en 1979 por la familia Torres, iniciando su andadura con 100 ha de viñedos cerca de los Andes y una pequeña bodega en Curicó. Con el transcurso de los años la empresa ha adquirido nuevos terrenos y ha ampliado sus instalaciones y gama de productos, contando en la actualidad con 400 ha de viñedos plantados en 6 fincas de características climáticas bien diferenciadas entre sí. La familia ha producido vinos en España desde hace 140 años y ya era propietaria de viñedos hace 300 años. Miguel A. Torres, decidió iniciar el proyecto chileno aconsejado por Alejandro Parot, amigo chileno y compañero de estudios en Dijon (Francia). Tras la búsqueda de un destino en América para el desarrollo de la vitivinicultura la firma adquirió un viñedo de cien hectáreas cerca de la Cordillera de los Andes y una pequeña bodega próxima a Curicó,ciudad ubicada a 200 kms. al sur de Santiago. Pese a que en los años 70 Chile apenas exportaba vino y que habían pocas inversiones extranjeras motivadas por la situación sociopolítica. Miguel A. Torres decidió apostar por el inmenso potencial del vino Chileno. La Presencia de estaciones extremadamente variadas y espectaculares diferencias entre temperaturas máximas y mínimas que superan los 20°C provocadas por la cercanía de la Cordillera de los Andes con sus nieves perpetuas y la influencia climática de la corriente de Humboldt jugaron un papel fundamental. Esta fuerte diferencia entre el día y la noche era ideal para la viña, pues potenciaba su capacidad para atesorar en las uvas sus mejores aromas. "Era un lugar ideal para elaborar vinos inolvidables". Así Miguel A. Torres afirmaba a mediados de los setenta que Chile era un paraíso de la viticultura. La decisión de elegir Chile por sus excelentes condiciones climáticas no fue suficiente. Miguel Torres Chile fue el primero en introducir nuevas tecnologías en la elaboración de vino, como la fermentación en cubas de acero inoxidable y el envejecimiento en barricas de roble francés. Además de contribuir al crecimiento de los vinos chilenos en los últimos 30 años.

Nuevos proyectos.

Con el transcurso de los años la empresa adquirió nuevos terrenos y amplió sus instalaciones y gama de productos. Actualmente la viña tiene 400 Has aproximadamente de viñedos plantados en 6 fundos con características climáticas bien diferenciadas entre sí. Ello permite el cultivo de variedades diversas y la elaboración de vinos con intenso carácter varietal. A partir del año 2010, Miguel Torres Maczassek, miembro de la quinta generación de la familia, asumió la presidencia de la empresa en nuestro país, teniendo como objetivos incrementar las exportaciones y velar por la buena marcha de la Bodega. Esta nueva etapa en la Bodega chilena se enfocó en la viticultura orgánica y la certificación Fair Trade de su línea de vinos más conocida por los consumidores: Santa Digna (Fair for Life). Estos avances han ayudado a ser una empresa más sostenible, pero también a llevar a cabo numerosos proyectos en varias poblaciones cercanas a Curicó. En la línea de la innovación se desarrolló el proyecto de recuperación de la uva ‘País’ con Santa Digna Estelado, el que fue elegido por dos años consecutivos como el Mejor Espumante de Chile por Annual Wines of Chile y ha sido catalogado por importantes medios nacionales e internacionales como extraordinario. También se amplió la línea de vinos Cordillera con una de las variedades más esperada, un Cabernet Sauvignon del Valle del Maipo. Un vino que reúne dos características excepcionales, 100 % Cabernet Sauvignon, la variedad más tradicional de nuestro país y originario del Valle del Maipo, distinguiéndose por la tipicidad que logra la influencia de la Cordillera Andina en los vinos de este rincón del mundo.

El primer fundo.

El primer fundo, es decir, la primera explotación agrícola de superficie menor a la de una hacienda, que adquirió Miguel Torres Chile fue FUNDO MAQUEHUA, en Valle Central, Curicó, en 1979. En él se encuentran la planta de elaboración y las cavas de crianza. Este fundo de 95 hectáreas de terreno pedregoso, es decir, con un buen drenaje, donde reunía condiciones particularmente buenas para el cultivo de las variedades tintas, como Cabernet Sauvignon y Merlot.
