La historia.

Pomerol es un testigo de la civilización romana. Antes, dos vías antiguas surcaban su meseta. La una estaba seguida por el poetaAusone cuando el llegaba desde el puerto de Condat cerca de Libourne, a su ciudadde Lucaniac. Son los romanos en primer lugar y luego Los Hospitalarios de San Juan de Jerusalén que cultivaban la vid de esta parroquia. Los peregrinos de Santiago de Compostela que seguían el itinerario tradicional de Pomerol encontraban allí hospitalidad y consuelo. Los Hospitalarios establecían entonces, su primera Comunidad en Libourne. En medio del siglo XVIII, el rostro moderno de esta prestigiosa Denominación Pomerol se estaba empezando a dibujabar. Desde entonces, la viticultura conocía un desarrollo creciente. Sus vinos eran buscados por los gastrónomos del mundo entero. Durante el siglo XIX, los barcos extranjeros, aficionados y compradores de sus grandes vinos se llevaban a ultramar el renombre de Pomerol. Los comerciantes de los mejores mercados internacionales, finos conocedores, procuraban visitar regularmente Pomerol con el fin de seguir lo más cerca posible la evolución de los vinos y comprarlos. Entrado en su fase de modernización y extensión, el viñedo debió, al final del siglo XIX, parar su producción ante la invasión filoxérica. Venido de ultra Atlántico, este peligroso parásito destruyó el conjunto del viñedo bordelés. Pomerol se reconstituirá de nuevo. El desarrollo de la viticultura pomerolesa será instigado por la llegada de nuevas familias venidas esencialmente de Correze y Bélgica durante las dos guerras y después de 1945. La actividad importante del negocio desempeñaba un papel primordial para la comercialización de la Denominación Pomerol, varios propietarios de castillos eran también comerciantes. A la confluencia del Isle y Dordogne, el puerto de Libourne seguía siendo un punto de encuentro con el resto de Europa, mucho tiempo señalado por un extraordinario dinamismo que favorecía la actividad comercial de la región. Un sindicato joven.

El Sindicato Vitícola y Agrícola de Pomerol fue creado en 1900 y por la declaración de los patronímicos de los fundadores, se encuentran siempre nombres familiares: De los abuelos y bisabuelos de los Productores de hoy. A partir de este tiempo, los responsables habían asignado un doble papel al sindicato orientándole hacia la puesta en común de las técnicas para mejorar la calidad de la Denominación Pomerol y hacia la defensa de este último. Su objetivo: impedir que los Productores de los municipios vecinos “sellen sus barricas con la Denominación Pomerol”. Tal planteamiento se incorpora a la actual Denominación de Origen Controlado - AOC. - que garantiza la autenticidad del producto propuesto sobre la zona de la Denominación Pomerol. Es por esto que el decreto de ley en 1935 que oficializaba la instauración de la AOC. por el Instituto Nacional de Denominación de Origen, fue fácil a Pomerol definir la delimitación precisa de la superficie de su Denominación y sus Reglamentos. El Comité Nacional del I.N.A.O. no tenía más que ratificar el trabajo realizado durante varias décadas por el Sindicato Vitícola y Agrícola de Pomerol.




La tierra y sus cepas.

El viñedo de Pomerol se sitúa en la meseta descendiente en terrazas sucesivas hacia el valle del Isle, en la confluencia del rio Dordogne. Los límites, al Norte por el arroyo del Barbanne, afluente del Isle. Se dice que separaba los países de la lengua de Oc de los de la lengua de Oíl; al este, Saint-Emilion; al Sur y al Oeste por la ciudad de Libourne. El suelo de esta meseta se forma en superficie de “graves”, tierras más o menos compactas; arcillosas y arenosas. Por todas partes el subsuelo tiene óxidos de hierro que se llaman en la región “impurezas de hierro”. Es este subsuelo que confiere al Pomerol su carácter bien marcado. La superficie de la tierra es de 813 hectáreas (o sea 0,7% de la superficie vitícola de Burdeos). Dos tercios de Merlot 80%, un tercio de Cabernet Franc 15% y Sauvignon 5%, esto es más o menos la cepa alrededor de Pomerol. El resultado obtenido es extraordinario. A la riqueza de Borgoña, Pomerol combina la fineza y la elegancia de los Grandes Vinos de Burdeos. Este conjunto de calidad da como resultado un vino extraordinariamente típico.
