La familia Raventós.
Las Bodegas Raimat fueron el segundo gran proyecto de la familia Raventós, pionera en la elaboración de cava en España a través de su bodega Codorníu. La primera bodega de Raimat fue construida en 1918 por el arquitecto modernista Rubió i Bellver, absolutamente innovador en la época. En 1988, fue renovada por el arquitecto Domingo Triay, que proyectó una pirámide de dos pisos. Actualmente, el majestuoso castillo de Raimat, rehabilitado respetando su estructura original, preside la finca, uno de los complejos vitivinícolas más prestigiosos del mundo. La uva de sus viñedos cubre las necesidades de la bodega, tanto para la elaboración de vinos tranquilos como de espumosos. Raimat es uno de los centros de investigación vitícola y enológica más importantes del mundo. Su visita es excepcional para aprender sobre los sistemas más avanzados de cultivo, elaboración y crianza.
Historia y trayectoria.
Cuando Manuel Raventós adquirió en 1914 los terrenos yermos de la finca Raimat, en un desértico paraje de Lleida, casi en la frontera con el desierto de Los Monegros, pocos creían que estuviera en su sano juicio. Casi 90 años después, Raimat es una pujante finca con 2.100 hectáreas dedicadas al cultivo del viñedo que continua en manos de la familia Raventós, propietaria del Grupo Codorníu. La primera bodega de Raimat data del año 1918, y fue diseñada por el eminente arquitecto modernista Rubió i Bellver. Una posterior ampliación en 1988, realizada de acuerdo con las más actuales tendencias de la arquitectura ecológica y de integración paisajística, dio el aspecto definitivo a la bodega. Raimat fue una de las primeras firmas en cultivar variedades foráneas casi desconocidas hasta entonces en España y en apostar por el emparrado en espaldera, dejando atrás la clásica y tradicional viña en vaso.

Historia.
El área geográfica que comprende la actual Denominación de Origen Costers del Segre lleva siglos elaborando vinos, pero su ubicación interior y alejado del mar, dificultaban su inclusión en las vías de comercialización, pero obteniendo unos vinos con elementos propios y característicos. Innovaciones en las variedades de uva y en los métodos de producción, fue el primer lugar de Cataluña en introducir las variedades cabernet sauvignon, merlot y chardonnay, junto a las variedades autóctonas, y se adoptaron las técnicas californianas de vinificación. Durante el año 1983: Jaume Siurana, director del Incavi, y Manuel Raventós Artes, director general de Codorniu y de la Bodega Raimat, consideraron que, la excelente calidad vitivinícola de las comarcas ilerdenses precisaba de un consejo regulador, para velar por su tradición vitivinícola y garantizar la excelente calidad de los vinos producidos y liderar la promoción de sus vinos, aprovechando el gran éxito que ya tenían los vinos de Raimat, constituyéndose como D.O. en mayo de 1986 y siendo ratificada dos años después.
Geografía, geología y clima.
Costers del Segre es una región vitivinícola española, situada en la provincia de Lérida, que se ha constituido en denominación de origen. La Denominación de Origen Costers del Segre es un mosaico formado por siete territorios, repartidos a lo largo de toda la cuenca del río Segre y el Pirineo leridano, con el objetivo de agrupar y dotar de entidad propia la vitivinicultura de la provincia de Lérida. Abarca sietes subzonas de producción: Segriá, Raimat, Artesa de Segre, Urgell, Pallars, Vall de Riucorb y Garrigues. Cada una de estas regiones tiene condiciones geográficas y climáticas diversas, alternando zonas de montaña con otras de llanura, cuyo nexo de unión es la cuenca media del río Segre, entre el Pirineo y el Ebro, y el clima interior y seco, alejado de la influencia del mar y con muchas horas de sol, pocas lluvias, pero de elevada humedad debido a las numerosas nieblas invernales. En general, goza de clima continental, con contrastes térmicos, alta insolación y pluviosidad escasa. Las altitudes varían entre los 200 y los 1.100 metros de altitud. Edafológicamente hablando, nos encontramos con terrenos calcáreos cubiertos parcialmente de arena, con una gran uniformidad en toda la denominación. La temperatura media anual es de 14 °C a 15 °C, siendo frecuentes heladas en invierno y temperaturas de hasta 35 °C en verano.
Los vinos.
Los vinos con el sello D.O. Costers del Segre pueden ser tanto blancos como rosados, tintos o espumosos, así como vinos de aguja y vinos de licor. Dependiendo del grado de envejecimiento, los vinos elaborados se clasifican en jóvenes, crianza, reserva y gran reserva. En el conjunto de esta Denominación de Origen las variedades blancas predominantes son las tradicionales, Macabeo y Parellada. Esto hace que los blancos de la región de Costers del Segre sean vinos de perfil más clásico, es decir, ligeros, afrutados y acidulados. La exitosa aclimatación del Chardonnay a la región ha abierto la puerta a vinos de características más modernas, ya sean vinos jóvenes o fermentados en barrica de roble, porque presentan una mayor estructura y se hace más presente su carácter varietal. Entre las variedades tintas predominan el Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah y Pinot Noir, pero también se cultivan las variedades tradicionales, sobretodo el Tempranillo, la Garnacha y el Trepat. Dentro de los matices lógicos que el suelo de cada territorio imprime en sus uvas, los tintos de la DO Costers del Segre se caracterizan porque tienen un aroma potente y un gusto equilibrado, al mismo tiempo que ofrecen una buena expresión tánica y en boca resultan sabrosos, amplios y estructurados.

Origen.
Según cuenta la historia, el origen de la uva albariño se sitúa en el siglo XII, época en la que fue importada por unos monjes de Cluny (Francia) que se situaron en tierras gallegas, más concretamente en el Monasterio de Armenteira (Pontevedra), desde donde se extendió al resto de Galicia y norte de Portugal, aunque hay opiniones que sitúan el origen de esta uva en Galicia en la época de los romanos. Independientemente de cuál sea el origen, lo cierto es que es la variedad por antonomasia de uva blanca gallega, y la asociación con su cultura y gastronomía está presente en nuestra mente al igual que las queimadas, las meigas y la tarta de Santiago. Decir albariño es decir Galicia, variedad con la que se elaboran los vinos del mismo nombre.
Características.
La uva albariño se produce en cepas altas, vigorosas que con un desborre precoz y una maduración media/tardía, presentan una fertilidad elevada. Los racimos son de tamaño medio, no demasiado compactos y con pedúnculo corto. Las uvas son de tamaño reducido, uniformes, esféricas y con una epidermis de color verde pálido amarillento en maduración, suave y delicada, aunque en su estrujado presenta un hollejo grueso. Su pulpa es blanda, muy jugosa y con apenas pigmentación, con sabor y aromas peculiares y característicos florales intensos. La albariño también es conocida con los sinónimos albarina, alvarín blanco, alvarinha, alvarinho, azal blanco, galego y galeguinho. Es una cepa que resiste bastante bien a botritis y mildiu, sin embargo, es atacada con facilidad por el oídio y las sequías.
Zonas de cultivo.
Los viñedos de uva albariño se localizan principalmente en Galicia (España), más concretamente en la zona conocida como Rías Baixas en la provincia de Ponteverdra. También existen plantaciones en otras regiones españolas como Cantabria, Castilla y León y Cataluña y en las portuguesas de Monção y Melgaço, en el noroeste del país, que linda con la zona Gallega de Rías Baixas. Las principal Denominación de Origen que utiliza esta uva es la D.O. Rías Baixas así como a la Indicación Geográfica Protegida Vino de la Tierra de Barbanza e Iría, también en Pontevedra. También viñedos de albariño en las áreas vitícolas de California.
Vinos.
Sus monovarietales son los vinos blancos más prestigiosos de Galicia. Presentan una graduación alcohólica elevada y una acidez notable. Son caldos muy potentes en aroma con notas intensas afrutadas y con matices florales. Algunos expertos estiman algo negativo ese “exceso” de aromas afrutados, calificándolos de empalagosos. Pare evitar este, según ellos, defecto, la crianza puede ser una buena opción. es de las pocas uvas blancas españolas que permite una óptima crianza sobre lías. La mayor parte de los vinos se consumen jóvenes, aunque, como se comentó con anterioridad, algunas bodegas los elaboran con crianza en barrica.
